Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Angela Burns, last week joined invited guests and fellow Assembly Members to welcome the six welsh based athletes home from the 2018 Invictus Games which were held in Sydney.
The homecoming, which took place in the Welsh Assembly was organised by the charity Help for Heroes and helped to showcase the value of the sports event for disabled ex armed forces personnel.
The event is in its third year and is the brain child of Prince Harry who himself saw active service out in Afghanistan.
Commenting after the event Angela said
“Coming from a forces family and representing a constituency which is home to a rich military history I felt it was very important to attend today’s event. The fact that it was held in Remembrance week made it more special.
“It was great to meet with the competitors and their families and gain a better understanding of how sport has helped the overcome their difficulties, live with their injuries and get on with their lives.
“I am often humbled in my job seeing the compassion and strength that people find within themselves. Today is certainly one of those occasions.
“I also enjoyed learning more about the role that Help for Heroes undertake on behalf of our service personnel and I was delighted to hear that activities and sessions have been arranged to help those retired service people in Carmarthenshire.”
