Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Angela Burns was a guest at the "Here Come the Girls" district awards ceremony for Girl Guides held at the Showground Pavilion, Haverfordwest last Sunday.
Angela, joined with a number of Guides groups from around the area to celebrate the movement and received awards for their achievements over the last twelve months.
Commenting following the ceremony Angela said
"I was thrilled to be invited along today to help recognise the achievements of so many of our local girl guides.
"As a mother to two young girls I fully appreciate the excellent work that the Guiding Movement undertakes and the positive female role models that it provides.
"What we see from today's event is that girls are truly doing it for themselves. Being a guide not only teaches a sense of belonging to a group, but helps to develop self-worth and empowers girls to be their best and face the challenges of growing up today.
"Although Guides have been around for over 100 years, the movement continues to remain relevant with a modern outlook and I am sure from the leaders and guides that I have met today the future of the Girl Guide movement in West Wales is in very safe hands.".
