Carmarthen West’s Assembly Member and Member of Parliament Angela Burns and Simon Hart, joined Welsh Conservative Assembly Group leader, Paul Davies and Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Rt Hon Jeremy Wright MP at the opening of S4C’s new headquarters in Carmarthen on Thursday.
The relocation by the world’s only exclusive Welsh language broadcaster was made possible by funding secured from both the Welsh and UK governments, including a £10 million relocation loan from the UK government.
The move will create 800 jobs and provide a £11 million boost to the west Wales economy.
Commenting after the opening Angela Burns said
“I am pleased to see this project finally come to fruition. It has been a long time in the planning and goes to show how, by two governments working together, results such as this great building can be achieved.
“I am delighted that the Secretary of State has joined us today and it reinforces the value that Conservatives place on the Welsh Language. It was A Conservative Government in the 1980’s who set up S4C and it is a Conservative Government working with the Welsh Government who have helped to create a facility fit to face the fast changing media and broadcast world of the 21st Century.
“My colleagues and I place a great importance on promoting the culture of Wales and by helping to make this relocation to Carmarthen possible we hope that S4C will continue to increase and promote the Welsh language across all four corners of Wales and beyond”.
